Kamelia Nikolova has worked in the child protection system since its inception, initially as a senior legal advisor.
Since 2008, she has been an employee of the State Agency for Child Protection, for more than 10 years she has headed the Main Directorate “Control of Children’s Rights”, since 1 year she has been the chief secretary of the agency.
Three coordination mechanisms have been developed under her leadership – Coordination mechanism for interaction in work in cases of children, victims of violence or at risk of violence and for interaction in crisis intervention (2010); Coordination mechanism for interaction between institutions and organizations in cases of unaccompanied children or foreign children separated from their families, located on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria, including children seeking and/or receiving international or temporary protection; Mechanism for work and cooperation between institutions in cases of children involved in parental conflicts (2023).
She seads the inter-institutional working group “Prevention of Violence and Abuse of Children” at the National Council for Child Protection and is responsible for the overall coordination of all involved institutions in the implementation of the National Program “Prevention of Violence and Abuse of Children” (2023 – 2026) .
